Best Ways To Quit Smoking - Considering The Long Odds

When you think it is time to quit smoking, it is often difficult to choose which approach to take. There are so many different methods available out there and so many different claims made by each one proclaiming to be the best way to quit smoking. It is difficult to identify the genuine articles from the snake oil and horse feathers.
One of the best ways to quit smoking has got to be cold turkey. You may be horrified to hear that but when I talk of cold turkey, I literally mean any method that does not require the use of any other substances or gimmicks to help you quit smoking.
But why you may ask is this one of the best ways to quit smoking? The reason is simple. People who quit smoking using any of the many alternative therapies do not last as long as people who have quit smoking without the use of aids.
Let me clarify. There are many things you can use to help you quit smoking. There is Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) in the form of patches, sprays, gums, lozenges, pills and inhalers. There are prescription drugs available through your doctor that claim to help you overcome cravings and reliance upon tobacco and nicotine. The pharmaceutical industry will advertise that these approaches are the best ways to quit smoking because sales will help their stockholders.
There is also a whole range of potions available in what I call the ’snake oil’ department. By this I refer to products that claim to have no nicotine in them whatsoever but claim to railroad any cravings you will have for cigarettes, tobacco or whatever poison you prefer.
They are secret formulas, mystical herbs and plant extracts and the like. They can be delivered in drinks, patches, pills and potions but one thing is for sure, they are totally unscientific and untested.
All of the non-cold turkey methods require that you use something physical in order to kick the habit. I term cold turkey as being any approach that uses just your ability as a person to overcome the cravings and addiction to nicotine. After all, nicotine is literally in your head, so it should be there that you will find what I consider to be one of the best ways to quit smoking.
So why is it really better to quit smoking without the use of interventions and substitutes? The reason is simple; an Australian study found that 89% of all the people who have quit smoking for 12 months or more have done it cold turkey. They have done it using the power of their mind, either with Hypnosis or Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) or just brute willpower in my opinion.
So, if you genuinely want to quit smoking for good one of the best ways to quit smoking has to be using one of these.
